What I saw when I returned home from work tonight.................
If you know me, you know that when I throw a party, I would prefer to have way too much food than not enough! So, needless to say, after our open-house yesterday there was some food left over. We sent everyone in the family (and a few friends) home with some treats to snack on later. Imagine my surprise when I saw that my sister Lisa (who traveled to Utah by plane) was carrying the leftover ham in a little zip-loc bag, out to my car. I said, "Um, Lis...what are you going to do with that?" She said, "Oh my family loves ham....there's a lot left here,we can't let it go to waste...." I said, "are you kidding me.......I'll have a Honey Baked Ham sent to your home for you! You can't take that with you on the plane!" She said, "Oh sure I can!"

So.....I was the sucker who carried her little "pig in a blanket" (minus the blanket) in to my house (where my darling sister was staying). I'll be darn if that zip-lock bag wasn't zipped tight, and I ham juice dripped all down the front of me! Nasty......but it was not in vane.....my sweet little nieces would have ham on the table soon!
Imagine my dismay when I returned home from work to find the HAM in my refrigerator! What on earth am I going to do with a bag full of HAM? The good news in all of this......is that it made me laugh hard at the end of a very rough day! So Lisa.....thanks for the gift that keeps on giving! I'll see if Santa can do anything about getting you in the PORK of the month club!

Day 1
Who knew I would miss my mom and dad so much! It's only been 11 hours and I miss them like crazy! I talked to both of them earlier today. They sounded wonderful! So far, the MTC has been a great experience for them. (Course they haven't had to try and fall asleep yet on the 100 thread count sheets.... on the queen size mattress...and they hadn't fully digested the navajo tacos from lunch when I spoke to them!) Dads having a great birthday and sounded very happy!
I can't tell you the funny story my mom shared because she specifically said......"Now darling, don't write about this on your Blog!" But, know this....it rivals my entrance in to the MTC, when I asked the nice man "what time I could expect my bags at my room?". "This aint the Ritz sister, you take your own bags (all five and a half of them) to your room!" What......no bellman? No Elders looking for service projects? Are you kidding me?

Okay, ... for the record, ...
I don't need to be part of the "ham of the month club" or any club. I can go down and purchase a honey baked ham at my local Costco or Honey Baked Ham anytime. I do however have issues with throwing out large quantities of food. It makes me feel guilty.
When I was leaving your house this morning, I was forced to push my guilt aside and leave the ham knowing full well it would be thrown away. (Notice I didn't have the heart to throw it away myself.) I decided that despite the guilt, I wasn't willing to risk the health of my family by brining home an unrefrigerated ham, ... maybe if I had a direct flight but the layover made my travel time too long! AND, seeing the "ham juice" all over you and your floor last night was a little too much for a pregnant girl to stomach. I'm not sure I'll be able to eat ham for a while.
I love you Ame! Thanks for the wonderful weekend! I wish I was back at your house right now!!
P.S. To all those who may think Amy has a full refrigerator, let me set the record straight. This photo was STAGED!! She put everything in her entire fridge on one shelf before taking this picture. I drank the only regular-sized waters and ate her only yogurt which means I pretty much ate the majority of what she had in her fridge. I would have possibly used the preserves although there was no bread.
Don't feel sorry for me though, she did have the leftovers from last weeks BNO and let me tell you, I enjoyed every bite of ice cream, candy and cookies! :)
Lisa.....how do you know I didn't move that stuff to the top shelf becuase I needed to make room for all of the groceries that I bought?
I guess you knew I didn't do that becuase you're my sister and you know me. But.....Lis....the reason I don't buy stuff.....is becuase I don't eat stuff at home! I am never here!
I am so happy that you came out and even happier that you stayed with me. Thanks for tickeling my back and for the "healing massage" that make me feel so much better today! You are amazaing! Love you zillions and zillions! xoxoxoAMy
I'd like to add myself to the list of people who don't like to throw out food. I once boiled the ham bone to make split pea soup with ham. DISGUSTING! I am no Martha Stewart and that desperate attempt at homemaking has taught me to THROW AWAY THE HAM!!!! Now, I do have 12 bags of cereal left that only have enough for 1/2 bowl in each of them. That's a possible 6 servings right there. The only problem is, do Honey Bunches of Oats go with Cap'n Crunch or Lucky Charms? At least I don't have a gallon drum of crystalized honey in the pantry. (I really have the 1/8th full teddy bear) Save on Lisa, Save on. I knew we were meant to be related.
Hey Ame, Robbie, Haley and I think that your milk has expired. You might want to take a look before you go tot take a swig of it the next time. It looks like it expired on 03/04/07. Prove it if were wrong. Love ya!
There is nothing that I love more than being sent home with a GIAGANTIC BAG OF LEFTOVER HAM.
It was what I got for Christmas. And it lasted for WEEKS.
Farah......if you would like....I could ship the bag-o-ham directly to you. Of course....Lisa borrowed my freezer packs to keep the cheese she took home cold......As soon as I get those back from her.....I'll ship the ham off to you! I hear ham keeps for years......just look at a can of Spam if you don't believe me! xoxoxAmy
Lisa denies taking home ham, but she takes home CHEESE???
Lisa, darlin', come over to my house. I'll help a sister out.
