It's been a while since I've seen a movie that I actually liked. After last weeks "two hours of my life that I'll never get back" (aka "Catch and Release") I'd almost sworn off movies all together. Guess what......I actually liked the movie I saw tonight...... "Music and Lyrics"! Based on the on-line summary of the movie.....I didn't think I would like it:
"Alex Fletcher (HUGH GRANT) is a washed-up ‘80s pop star who’s been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. The charismatic and talented musician gets a chance at a comeback when reigning pop diva Cora Corman invites him to write and record a duet with her, but there’s a problem—Alex hasn’t written a song in years, he’s never written lyrics…and he has to come up with a hit in a matter of days. Enter Sophie Fisher (DREW BARRYMORE), Alex’s beguilingly quirky plant lady, whose flair for words strikes a chord with the struggling songwriter. On the rebound from a bad relationship with the newly famous novelist Sloan Cates (CAMPBELL SCOTT), Sophie is reluctant to collaborate with anyone, especially commitment-phobe Alex. As their chemistry heats up at the piano and under it, Alex and Sophie will have to face their fears—and the music—if they want to find the love and success they both deserve."
I really liked it! Maybe I just needed an escape tonight....maybe it was the company....maybe in a really bizarre way, I identified with Drew Barrymore's character.......or maybe its just a really cute movie! I recommend it to my mom and dad, girls from 14-99 and all the men that love those girls!

I disagree... Catch & Release was great and was all about finding hope in new love after suffering the agony of a broken heart. I believe I may have been in the same theatre with you and you were talking to some short blonde-hair pregnant lady during the movie as well as watching a sub-set of a different story line taking place in the same theatre instead of watching Catch & Release.
Does this mean our Amy is a "movie talker"? Shame on you. Once again, I suggest "Bridge to Terabithia" because it is so good. It's not a fantasy/Narnia movie. It's a cute best friends movie. I promise you will like it Amy. Review it here when you're done and prove me wrong.
Sargie....you read my blog? What the????????? I am sorry I didn't like "Catch & Release"......I just don't like those kind of movies....you know....the kind that leave you feeling confused and a little upset that wasted so much time sitting there when you could have been out......could have been out......well.....I can't think of anything....maybe it wasn't that bad after all. No...actually...on second thougt it was pretty bad.
Amy first off I read your blog every day. I love reading it and it always makes me smile and occasionally laugh out loud. Second of all I loved Catch and Release. But I guess to each his own. Love you and thanks for making me laugh. Oh and stop by someday I would love to see you.
Aimo.... what is to be confused???? Girl's fiance dies and she is broken hearted... she finds out he wasn't so perfect... she feels awful... then she sifts through the imperfections of a guy she only knew on a surface level and falls in love. Sounds like a tv movie of the week based on a couple of true stories (minus the dead fiance / magnify that "finds out he wasn't so perfect and feels more awful".
ps - i'm having insomnia and this is safer than being on a Mormon dating web-site this late at night... weird men try to solicit you into IM'ing dirty talk.
Brooke......I would love to see you! I miss you and your cute little family.
Brooke and Sarge: I have a feeling you guys would enjoy the same type of movies......maybe you should exchange numbers!
PS.......Sarge......I know all about the late night insomnia....how do you think I met TINY BUBBLES........Chat with caution and avoid men in Guam and the UK.
Good Movie, I am in the datagory of loving a girl in that age group. It was close to pancake day so I could use all the syrup left over from the movie and not have extra caloric intake. It was like a twofer! I still love your blog and sense of self. Slick
well, well, well, I shall now give you all my opinion. not as if it is really that good or important but... I do see a lot of movies and i do looove a good movie. well, catch and release was somewhat entertaining. I found it a little ridiculous at times as well as very dirty. I usually don't mind ridiculous but this movie bugged me. I love Jennifer Garner so that made the movie bearable. The main character was way too skinny and had gross teeth. Now onto the music movie. I did not want to see it and absolutely loved it. I laughed hard from the very begining. I was so happy they showed the music video at the end of the movie again. I left happy as could be. I really think you all would like it. But hey, I was a product of the 80's. I loved the 20 year reunion.
This is worth it for the music video alone. That four minutes was worth at LEAST my $10 movie ticket!!!
